My recording of Hallelujah has been mastered by multi-Grammy winner Gavin Lurssen, the artwork is done and the track is now on it's way to iTunes! It should be there in the next few weeks and I'll send you an email as soon as it's available for purchase. I'll be offering a special bonus to anyone who buys the track through iTunes and leaves me a review. More details to come...
Also, more autographed merchandise is now available on the website. We have limited edition posters and cds! You tell me how you want it personalized!
Just a quick reminder that I'll be appearing live on Homegrown Radio this Friday, May 28th at 10 pm EST / 7 pm PST! I hope you will listen in and send in some questions! We want to hear from you all!
Hi All!
Hope you haven't forgotten me! I know it's been awhile. I have some new songs for you up on the website, some web radio interviews coming up next month and this new fangled newsletter that I hope is getting to you and that you can actually read!
Listen to new songs on my website now!
There are several new songs up on the site to check out. I'm also trying to add all the stories behind the songs for you enjoy.
The first new song is my version of the song Hallelujah written by Leonard Cohen and recorded by damn near everyone but I didn't know that when I first heard it so you'll have to check out the story. I recorded my version with producer Rye Randa. My dad says it's the best thing I've ever done...so who's gonna argue with that!
The next song is I'm Leaving the Fairytale Behind a co-write between me and the very talented Athena Marie and sung by the equally as talented Jenna O'Gara, what a voice! Producer Dan Marfisi really brought it to life for us. I am so proud of this song.
The final new song is State of Grace a blues number based on a poem by my pal Charles Clifford Brooks III and co-written with Sunny Hilden and John DePatie. I still need to write the story behind this one..
Web radio interviews in May!
I have a couple of live interviews coming up in May that hope that you can tune in!
First up is The Michael Nayt Show on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 6pm EST and 3pm PST. The web address is www.blogtalkradio.com/the-unusual
Then on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 10pm EST and 7pm PST I'll be on the air with Lorraine McCathy and Live Music Media. Lorraine has been playing my video on her TV show in the NYC area. The web address is www.lmme.info/webradio
There is some new merchandise up on my site as well. You can now purchase limited edition signed posters from both Good As Gone and Rustic Heart. Signed cds will be available shortly as well. As always, thank you so much for your support. You can always contact me at debbie_hennessey@hotmail.com or www.debbiehennessey.com

*** Winter Wonderland – My First Holiday Recording!
*** Updated Website – New Look & New Features!
*** ASCAPlus Award – My 3rd One!
*** One Important Request!
*** Did You Know?
Hi Everyone!
I know it has been several months since you’ve heard from me but I honestly needed a break from the ‘biz’ side of things so I’ve been trying to give myself that time. However, I have not been a complete slacker! This summer I recorded my first holiday song and have some more music on the way by early next year. I’ve also updated the look of my website so I hope you will check that out. Here’s the latest.
*** Winter Wonderland – My First Holiday Recording!
I’ve wanted to record some holiday songs forever and finally had the chance to do one this summer. It was about 100 degrees here in LA when we recorded it but we managed to get in the spirit. It is a pop version of the holiday classic Winter Wonderland with lush strings and jingle bells – the jingle bells definitely made it feel colder in the studio. The song was arranged and produced by Dan Marfisi and mastered by multi-grammy winner Gavin Lurssen. Good friend Orlando Rios once again created some wonderful artwork for me. You can hear the full version of it on my website. The song is currently available for download purchase at iTunes for $.99 and the cd version with artwork is available for $1.99 from CD Baby. http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/DebbieHennessey Please note this is a one-song item.
*** Updated Website – New Look & New Features!
My website has a new look as well as some new features. I love the new colors and style. There is now a music player at the top of each page that you can click on and I’ve preloaded it with some new and favorite songs to listen to while you are checking out the site. There’s still more to come so be sure to check back.
*** ASCAPlus Award – My 3rd One!
Just last month I received my 3rd ASCAPlus Award for songwriting from the American Society of Composers and Publishers. Well, thank you very much Mr. umm ASCAP!
***One Important Request!
If you have an iTunes, Amazon or CD Baby account or any other favorite site where my music is available I could really use some reviews or ‘stars’ or thumbs up, whatever they have, I’ll take ‘em!
Here’s my new favorite quote from Paul Stanley of Kiss, “File-sharing, that's like me stealing your car and telling you I'm sharing your transportation." Which kind of leads me to this…
*** Did You Know?
Even my closest friends are always surprised to find out how the music biz works…excuse me, doesn’t work. Here’s something that has been going on since the first radio station played the first recorded song and it’s not cool. For over 80 years corporate radio has not paid one cent to artists when they play their song over the air - the same songs that attract millions of listeners and millions of advertising dollars to their stations. This is the only business that gets away with this. Can you think of any other business that doesn’t have to pay its suppliers for their product? Can you imagine grocery stores not paying farmers for their fruits and veggies or your favorite Target expecting to get all their various products at no cost?
Bill HR848 The Performance rights act was introduced in Congress in 2007 and just this week past the Senate Judiciary Committee. This bill would finally close this loophole in the copyright law and ensure that AM and FM radio fairly compensate artists when their music is played on the radio. We not talking about a lot of money here, some stations would pay as little as $500 a year! Now the National Assn of Broadcasters would like you all to believe that they sell millions of records for artists…they don’t!!! That is a huge myth. Why would you buy something you can hear for free over and over again? Anyway, please, please, please visit the Music First Coalition website to get the facts and send an email or call your representatives and tell them you support this bill. http://musicfirstcoalition.org/
Thank for listening and for all your support. It is greatly appreciated.

*** WRITING & RECORDING NEW MUSIC IN ’09!
*** THE SONG ”DARE ME” APPEARS ON MAKE-A-WISH CHARITY CD!
*** HEAR ME ON BACKUP VOCALS FOR CLASSIC SEEDS SONG!
Hi all! It’s been awhile since I sent you an update so I hope that you are all doing well and that 2009 is off to a good start for you. I had a quiet holiday here in LA and was very happy to ring in a new year. With all that is going on in the world I’m sure that you are as focused as I am on who and what is really important to each of you. So turn off the news, it will be there later. Make some plans with friends, family and pets. Do something for yourself that is relaxing and relatively inexpensive, go to the movies, read a book, listen to music…especially listen to music! ;-)
*** WRITING & RECORDING NEW MUSIC IN ’09!
I’ll be spending a lot of this year writing and recording new songs, mostly for possible film and tv placement. At the moment I don’t have any plans for a new full-length cd but I may do an EP or release some songs as singles so you can have your own versions. I will certainly keep you posted on that. In the meantime you can listen to the new songs anytime you like here on my website: http://www.debbiehennessey.com/music.html
*** SONG ”DARE ME” APPEARS ON MAKE-A-WISH CHARITY CD!
I was recently asked by fellow songwriter Philip Watson to provide a song for a charity cd he was putting together with Moiko Records to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. After sending them some songs, they chose Dare Me, which I co-wrote with Richard Wold, Stan Webb and Renee Carly. The cd is called A Wish For Country and the download version is available now on Moiko Records. The cd version will be available next month. Please check out these two links to find out more and to purchase one song or the whole cd! Every bit helps. http://moikonetwork.ning.com/profile/AwishforCountryCharityCD http://www.cdfreedom.com/artists/moikorecordsinc.1/catalog/awishforcountry/
***HEAR ME ON BACKUP VOCALS FOR SKY SAXON!
I mentioned this recording to you quite a while back but I have just found out that it is available. I recorded backup vocals for guitarist/producer Danny B. Harvey for a new version of The Seeds classic song Pushing Too Hard This was for original Seeds’ singer Sky Saxon’s cd The King of Garage Rock, which Danny produced. The track I’m on includes Clem Burke (Blondie) and Elliot Easton (The Cars). I’m only on the one song but check it out. Again, you can just purchase the one song if you want. ***NEW INTERVIEW THIS SATURDAY ON MUSIC TO GO USA!
***HEAR THE NEW SONG CHASING GHOSTS!
***WORTHY CAUSE: ONLY $1 FOR KATIE’S VOICE 500Kin365.org
Hi all! Seems like it’s been awhile since I sent you an update. I hope you are all doing well. I have just a couple of things for you this month. So let’s get to it!
***NEW INTERVIEW THIS SATURDAY ON MUSIC TO GO USA!
This Saturday, October 18 at 7pm EST/4pm PST you can listen to an extended interview I just recorded with radio host Bert Gagnon for his weekly show Songwriter’s Network, which airs on www.MusicToGoUSA.com. We had a great talk and I hope you will check it out. It also marks the radio debut of the new song Chasing Ghosts (see below). The station runs 24/7 and you can request songs at anytime. Bert's show airs every Saturday night from 6-11pm EST for the best in indie music and interviews. www.MusicToGoUSA.com.
***HEAR THE NEW SONG CHASING GHOSTS!
I am very happy to tell you about a new song that I co-wrote with the lovely and talent Ms. Alison Block. Guitarist Jeff Marshall produced and recorded the track with drums by Charlie Waymire. We are really proud of this one so I hope you’ll stop by my website and check it out www.debbiehennessey.com/music.html. It’s also available on my Myspace page www.myspace.com/debbiehennessey. There are links on both sites for Alison, Jeff and Charlie, so check those out as well. Please drop me a note and let me know what you think of Chasing Ghosts.
***WORTHY CAUSE: ONLY $1 FOR KATIE’S VOICE/500Kin365.org
I was recently made aware of the incredible voice and music of Indie folk-rock singer/songwriter Katie Reider who passed away this summer from a rare tumor. Katie’s first cd came out in 1998 and she was just reaching the peak of her music career when she developed a tumor in her upper left jaw that progressed into her sinus, skull base and left eye orbit. Over the course of one year, the rare facial tumor took away her sight in one eye, her voice, and most importantly her ability to perform. So with the help of Katie loyal fans www.500Kin365.org was created to introduce 500,000 people to Katie Reider, her music and her story over the next year. For only $1 you can download nine of Katie’s songs. Just $1 and 100% of the proceeds go to a fund to help support Katie's family with the expenses that accumulated during her illness. Katie had two young children with her devoted life partner Karen, whom she had been with for 10 years. Her voice and music are truly beautiful and I hope you will take the opportunity to get to know this genuine talent who was taken far too soon. Please go to www.500kin365.org for more info. That’s it for now. Thanks again for all the wonderful support. take care, Debbie http://www.debbiehennessey.com & www.myspace.com/debbiehennessey "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." *** Watch Lowen & Navarro video and help those with ALS!
Eric Lowen & Dan Navarro have been writing and performing together for over 20 years. With their unique harmonies, honest lyrics and beautiful melodies they have influenced countless singers and songwriters and entertained thousand of fans. You no doubt know their song ‘We Belong’, which was a huge hit for Pat Benatar but that is merely the tip of the iceberg in their songwriting history. Over the last few years Eric and Dan have become tireless teachers and advocates of those living with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Their new album ‘Learning to Fall’ will be out this summer and the first video is now available “with 30-voice ALS Choir including patients (PALS), friends, family and caregivers, all joining in song to make a point. That life is beautiful with or without a serious disease” Please take a few minutes to be inspired by this incredible song and Eric’s example of how life should be lived each moment. http://lownav.c.topica.com/maalI5KabHEyLb7U3i3baehoil/
*** Check out new cds from Eve Selis and my good buddies The Middle Class!
Finally, I have a couple of new cds for you to check out. The first is ‘Angels and Eagles’ by Eve Selis. I had the pleasure of seeing Eve and her band perform the entire cd this past weekend and I was blown away. Eve is an incredible singer, songwriter and performer. If you have the chance to see her live, run don’t walk to the show! In the meantime, please check out her music. I promise you will love it! http://www.eveselis.com/ My good friends The Middle Class have finally released their first cd ‘Deep In Debt’. They have created a truly unique Folksy/Bluesy/Americana sound by incorporating great harmonies, and interesting instruments such as washboard and spoons, along with more traditional harmonica and acoustic guitars, while their witty lyrics touch on all kinds of different subjects. They have created a fresh take on traditional music. Please give it a listen. http://www.myspace.com/themiddleclass2 I know, my newsletters can be a bit ‘wordy’ but I do appreciate you taking the time to listen. Thanks again for all the wonderful support. take care, Debbie http://www.debbiehennessey.com & www.myspace.com/debbiehennessey "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." *** BACK FROM NASHVILLE WITH A NEW SONG!
*** GOGIRLS MUSIC FEST BENEFITS KITTEN RESCUE!
*** WOMEN’S RADIO INTERVIEW! *** SITES TO CHECK OUT!
Hello friends – lot’s of fun stuff for October!
*** BACK FROM NASHVILLE WITH A NEW SONG!
Nashville was wonderful! My friend, songwriter Renee Carly joined my on the trip and we found the people to be truly lovely and the scenery both historic and beautiful. I was finally able to meet in person with the publishers and some of the songwriters that I’ve been working with via phone and email for years. I was able to see some friends who make now Nashville their home and I definitely made some new friends. I got to play a few songs at Douglas Corner with my friend Paul Reeves and one of his players, Steve - they rocked. We visited a couple of top-notch recording studios. We made it to the Bluebird where we saw some amazing writers whose collective resumes look like a copy of the Billboard Top 20 chart. We went honky-tonkin’ on Broadway, which was a blast, didn’t matter what size joint you went into the bands were all rocking! Visited the Country Music Hall of Fame - they’ve done a great job there with all the interactive displays. They also have kicking cd selection in the gift store. Back on Broadway, got me some new cowboy boots, of course. But one of the best things I did was write a new song with Richard Wold (co-writer Good As Gone) and Stan Webb (co-writer This Ain’t About You). These guys are legends and two of the nicest people ever. It was an honor and an education but most of all it was a hell of a lot of fun to sit in a room with them and come up with new song. Renee joined in and in just a few hours we had a fun little ditty called Dare Me. I’ve begun work on the demo and should have it up on the website for you to hear by November. I’ll keep you posted.
*** GOGIRLS MUSIC FEST BENEFITS KITTEN RESCUE!
Ok, if you know anything about me you know this one is really important to me…On Saturday, October 20th from 2pm to 10pm the GoGirls Music Fest lands in Los Angeles. This year’s LA event is to benefit Casitas Hotel for Cats - Kitten Rescue’s Private No-Kill Shelter kittenrescue.org. The LA event will be held in the beautiful courtyard at Maude Carrin, 7427 Beverly Blvd., Los Angles, CA 90036. $10 includes music by 11 different artists, food, drinks and a free GoGirls Music Fest 07 cd to the first 100 guests. Performances included: Zoe Scott, Crazy Aunt Mary, Nellie Bly, Kelly’s Lot, Melineh Kurdian, Aura, Annette Conlon (Annette is busting her butt putting all this together), Hobbyhorse, Elke Robitaille and Jennifer Jayden and me! I go on at 6pm with guitarist Jeff Marshall – we’ll be playing the new song, Dare Me – but come early and stay late, I’m going to! For more info and shows http://www.myspace.com/gogirlsmusicfestla

Hello friends! I hope you had a lovely Labor Day. It’s been 100 – 115 degrees here in the Los Angeles area for the last several days and with the heat we’ve had the added joy of humidity, thunderstorms, even a tornado. And while the cats and I are melting away we are thankful that we are not in the fire zone. A huge thank you to the LA area firefighters who are out there battling those blazes started by all the lightning. On a lighter note, September is going to be a busy month for me. The big news is I’m finally going to Nashville. Speaking of hot, what is the chance that Nashville’s summer long heat wave will end in the next week…ah, a girl can dream…There’s lot’s of news so let’s get to it!
*** THIS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH GARAGE BAND TRACK OF THE DAY!

*** INDIE ISLANDS MAGAZINE ARTICLE!
The September issue of Indie Islands has a really nice article written by Jeanne Stewart. The article is a lovely two-page spread and what is also cool is their table of contents where I share the page with Reba and Randy Owens (Alabama) and some other very cool indie artists! Also, please take a moment to vote for me for Favorite Female Artist on their home page, it takes about ½ second! http://www.indieislands.com/
*** GOING TO NASHVILLE!
I know, finally! I may be a bit of a late bloomer but in the end I always “get ‘er done” oh for pete’s sake, I haven’t even crossed the Mason-Dixon line and I’m quoting Larry the Cable Guy! ;-) Ok, that joke’s for my dad…but seriously, I am so excited to finally be going to Music City USA! In addition to just soaking up the music, history, sights and southern hospitality, I will finally get to meet some of the songwriters and publishers that I’ve been working with since the first cd. I will also get the opportunity to see some friends who now make Nashville their home. One of those friends, Paul Reeves of Fanny Grace, will be joining me on guitar Tuesday, September 18th at Douglas Corner to play their famous open mic. Of course, I’ll be checking out The Bluebird, The Basement, Grimey’s and The Pancake Panty! If you’ve got a favorite place in Nashville you think I should check out let me know.

Huge news!!! My Video Played on Extra! TV Last Night! AND Please Vote for it on Star987.com before this Sunday, August 5th! Hi All, Part of my music video for the song Good As Gone was played on the TV show Extra! last night. I had no idea this was going to happen and I'm so lucky that I even caught it! Ok, here's the deal, I entered the video in the Star 98.7 contest (see below) and Jude Cole (record producer) is Extra's music correspondent, and Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray) the co-host of Extra is one of the judges, so I guess they have been picking some of the videos to run at the end of the show. I usually catch the show anyway and had it on last night as I was working on my computer and at the end of the show they start talking about the contest and Dana Devon (the other co-host) says my name and my video starts playing. I almost fell over in shock! What a thrill to see the video on national television! So exciting! So here's the deal: Star 98.7 is playing my video, Good As Gone on their website in a contest for Kiefer Sutherland (24) & Jude Cole's record label. Not that many people where chosen so I'm pleased that I was one of them. Originally, I'd just like to make a good showing of votes, at least get heard by the label, maybe get Star to add the song to their playlist, so the Extra thing is just fantastic! Now, I know what you're thinking… Wow, Debbie how can I help? How can I vote? Ok, that's probably not what you are thinking but you can be a huge help by voting just once in the contest. You only have to do it once because they are only accepting one vote per email address. Here's how you vote: Go to the link below - this is the page with my video if you want to watch it - and click on the big red VOTE button above all the videos it will take you to another page. Scroll down that page and click on the button by my name, then scroll down some more and enter your email and click vote/submit. There is one more step in order for the vote to count!!! Now, go to your email, open the email from Star987 and click the link in there. The vote will NOT count until you click the link in their email. They are only accepting one vote per email account so every vote counts! http://www.star987.com/pages/rockstar/videos15.html The First Round Ends this Sunday, August 5th So Please vote before that. THANK YOU!!!!! *** WRITE A REVIEW, get a gift and don’t forget the video! Hello friends! Hope you are all doing well in your corner of the world. I realize it’s been a couple of months since the last newsletter but it’s not because I don’t love ya! You know, a lot of the indie marketing types tell you, send out emails every month even if you don’t have something new happening, blah, blah, blah… Here’s what I think, how can you miss me if I won’t go away?! ;-) Ok, seriously, here’s what I think, I really appreciate the fact that you are interested enough in my music to have joined my little mailing list. I also know how busy you all are and how inundated we all get with email. So I’m not about to abuse you with an email every other week. Of course, if I ever get famous, you won’t hear from me at all… JUST KIDDING! If I ever get famous it will be because you all where kind enough to support my little dream! Ok, enough abuse for now, as this is a rather long update you will probably want me to go away and those marketing guys are going to have a field day telling me what I’m doing wrong… so, here’s the latest: *** JULY SHOWS! This coming Saturday, July 14th @ 7:30pm, C&D's Welcome Cafe, 1808 South PCH, Redondo Beach CA 90277. This is my first time at this lovely coffee house cafe by the beach. Yes, folks by the beach! So you have no excuse not to come. Joining me will be Jeff Marshall and Christopher Maloney on guitars. They have wonderful food, coffees and teas and it’s BY THE BEACH! Did I mention that? Then on Saturday, July 28th @ 2:20pm, Relay For Live/American Cancer Society Event, John Adams Middle School 2425 16th St., Santa Monica CA 90405. This is a full day outdoor event of bands and activities to benefit ACS. This is the fourth year in a row that I've been honored to play this event. It is always a fun and inspiring day. Bring a blanket, chairs, whatever and sit on the lawn and enjoy the show and more importantly cheer on the folks who are walking round the track in the relay! Joining me will be Jeff Marshall and Kevin Chown on guitars, along with my buddy Clem Jeffreys on harmonica! We hit stage at 2:20pm but there are all kinds of great bands before and after us. (Please note this year’s location is new, just behind the old location of SM City College)
***NEW RECORDINGS!
For other artists, songwriters & charity Over the last couple of months I’ve had the honor of doing some recording for other artists. I have to tell you I LOVE doing this. I love being in the studio. Anyway, here are a few wonderful projects I’ve been a part of lately. The first is BEAUTIFUL-Women on the Move. Beautiful is cd project that raises funds for Women's Domestic Abuse Shelters. Featuring 17 songs by artists such as Kelly Z, Julie Gribble, Evonne Rivera, Holly Jurgensen, Karen Hart, Joan Enguita, and many more. My friend and keyboardist Michelle Krell Malone wrote the song Grain of Sugar and asked me to sing it for her and it is now on this cd. Joan Enguita is the force behind this whole project and there are several shows happening as well as the cd. This is the only cd where you will find this song. So it’s a collector’s item and a great cause! Check out Joan’s myspace site for more info www.myspace.com/joanenguita1 Lonesome Spurs, Patsy Cline and more… I also did some recording for my friend, guitarist/producer Danny B. Harvey who along with the lovely Lynda Kay make up The Lonesome Spurs. Danny produced the new cd Patsy Cline Presents. Here’s the skinny: On the song Honky Tonk Merry-Go-Round, they took Patsy’s original vocal and redid the music with Danny’s scorching guitars and Lynda Kay trading lead vocal lines with Patsy and if that wasn’t cool enough, I got to sing a little backup. I haven’t heard the final version yet, hopefully I didn’t end up on the cutting room floor, as they say, regardless it was AMAZING to sing to an actual Patsy Cline vocal track. Also, for Danny, I recorded backup vocals for a new version of The Seeds classic song Pushing Too Hard, with the original singer Sky Saxon on lead vocals. Also on the track were Clem Burke (Blondie) and Elliot Easton (The Cars). Oh, don’t get too excited, I didn’t get to meet any of them. I don’t have links for these yet but check out The Lonesome Spurs, they are truly one of a kind and you will love them www.lonesomespurs.com Songwriter Renee Carly… I am also recording backups vocals for my good friend songwriter Renee Carly on a bunch of new tunes she is writing. Renee writes for other artists as well as herself and has a wonderful collection of country pop tunes in her catalog. If you have one of my cds, you have already heard some of her catchy tunes. Please check out more of her music at www.myspace.com/reneecarly *** Write A Review on iTunes, YouTube, or any of your favorite music or video sites!

Hi all, It’s been a couple of months since my last update but I promised you something big in the New Year…
*** Good As Gone Music Video Arrives!
I am so thrilled to tell you that I’ve made my first music video for the song Good As Gone. It is a performance video shot in two locations: Woodcliff Studio and the High Desert area Northeast of Los Angeles. I could go on and on about how this all came together and what happened when but I’ll just give you the very important people that made it all happen and then you can go and watch the video! I was so lucky to be introduced to Executive Producer/Director Zach Jordan of Macatawa Pictures by my good buddy Clem Jeffreys (from the band The Middle Class). Zach and his crew, DP-Glenn Sauber, Audio Playback-Juan Reynoso, Hair/Makeup-Sherilyn Segal, and PA-Sugar, were the most fun and professional people to work with. Zach just understood the song and me from the first, and he and Glenn were able to translate it to film. Huge, huge thanks to Zach and the guys, Sherilyn, and Yolanda, too! Also big thanks to Frank Rosato (Woodcliff Studio) and my dear friend Angela Gonzalez, for the locations. What an amazing feeling to finally do something that you’ve waited forever to do. It wouldn’t have come together without all these wonderful people.
