Debbie Hennessey: Music
I'm Leaving The Fairytale Behind (lead vox Jenna O'Gara)
Athena & I co-wrote this song last summer based on a title idea that I had. Athena and I had been planning to write a pop song together and a few days before our session this title popped into my head. I knew immediately that Athena would be the perfect co-writer for this as she has such a great pop sensibility. As we were writing it we realized it would be best with a young sounding voice, which I don't have, which I've never had even when I was really young! Lyrically, I’m so pleased with the message of empowerment and musically, well it just rocks!
Anyway, once it was written we contacted producer Dan Marfisi who we've both worked with before and who is known for his work in the young pop market. It took several months to find the right singer but as it happened the stars aligned and we placed an ad just a few days after Jenna O'Gara moved to Los Angeles. She was perfect and did an amazing job.
At some point I will do my own more acoustic version but for now, I hope you will enjoy this version as much as I do.

I don't believe in storybook endings
I don't want to play the princess cuz I'd just be pretending
Yeah I'd just be pretending
I'm the kind of girl who makes my dreams happen
I'm the kind of girl who's not afraid to slay my own dragons
Yeah slay my own dragons
PRECHORUS
No I'm not Sleeping Beauty
CHORUS
I'm not waiting on a fairytale
I'm not living in happily ever after
It's up to me to make my life matter
I'm not looking for a Prince Charming
I'm not hoping for my once upon a time
I'm leaving the fairytale behind
I don't need to gaze into a magic mirror
I don't have to fit into the perfect glass slipper
The perfect glass slipper
No I'm not Cinderella
CHORUS
I'm not waiting on a fairytale
I'm not living in happily ever after
It's up to me to make my life matter
I'm not looking for a Prince Charming
I'm not hoping for my once upon a time
I'm leaving the fairytale behind
BRIDGE
I can build my own castles
I can win my own battles
I'm not Snow White with her poison apple
No I'm not, no I'm not
REPEAT CHORUS OUT…
